Protect yourself from wi-fi hacks with Essential VPN
IF YOU USE WIFI, AND DON’T USE A VPN, YOU COULD BE VULNERABLE
KRACK, the latest WIFI hack to be discovered allows hackers to easily intercept unencrypted data (passwords and usernames) to any devices connected to WIFI with WPA2 security. This level of security is common in most venues you are likely to be connecting to WIFI in and there’s a good chance it’s the same in your home system.
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
Your data can be intercepted without you knowing, with the hackers acting as a ‘man in the middle;’ (please see diagram above). This video shows just how easy it is for hackers to intercept your data, even if you are connected to a secure HTTPS site. Please click here to find the full technical details of this discovery.
IS MY DEVICE AT RISK
If you are using a device connected to a wireless network which has adopted the WPA2 security then you are potentially at risk. Android devices, including Kodi boxes are particularly vulnerable.
WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS ?
You could have your username and passwords stolen, giving hackers access to your email, social media and even bank accounts, which could result in identity theft and even financial loss.
CAN I PROTECT MYSELF
Use Essential VPN to fully protect yourself from KRACK, whenever you are connected to WIFI. Essential VPN provides military grade encryption to ensure all of your data is safe and remains confidential.
We would also recommend u[dating your operating system, which is a good habit to get into but, with this current threat, most of the suppliers have also been working on updates to improve their security.
